Why I Love Grimalkin From the Iron Fey Series

He is a cat.

That alone should be enough, but, because for some it isn't, I will go on.

He irrevocably confirms my and ancient Egyptians' belief that cats are superior to humans and fey alike, specifically in the knowledge department. He adds a surreal Alice in Wonderland element to the novels, what with his backwards guidance and disappearances. He's very witty and I always find myself attracted to the more clever characters that can make me laugh out loud.

Not to mention that he speaks so articulately. Like, politely, but making fun of you with every word he says. Almost old-fashioned, but not quite. He's constantly skirting the main characters around dangers and sometimes leading them right into dangers. His sneeze is the feline form of a laugh. And, let's face it, where would Meghan, Ash, and Puck be without him?

He knows where most of the trods are in the Nevernever and the mortal realm, his "random" disappearances foretell trouble, he's everyone's friend and everyone's enemy, and he does all of this for his own amusement.

To sum it up, he is a cat.
